What are the different ways to transfer money?

Transferring money can be confusing because there are several ways you can move money around. Here's an overview:

  • Internal transfers - This service sends money to a U.S. Bank checking or savings account you own.
  • External transfers - This service sends money to a checking or savings account you own at another financial institution.
  • Digital, domestic, or international wire transfers - These services send money to a checking or savings account you don't own. You can process a digital wire via mobile or online banking.
  • Send money with Zelle® - This sends money from your account to that person's registered phone number or email address. Don't worry, they set up their account to receive funds, so you don't have to.
