How do I get my electronic or paper title after I've paid off my vehicle loan?

What happens depends on whether the title is in electronic or paper form. Please allow seven to 10 business days for the lien release, after the vehicle loan is paid in full. If you're unsure whether the title is electronic or paper or if you have any additional questions, give us a call at 800-872-2657 (USBANKS). We accept relay calls.

Electronic titles

A lien release notice is sent to the state, then the state will mail a lien-free title to you.
Florida and Ohio residents: After the lien release is sent, you must present yourself in person at the local licensing agency to receive a paper title. You shouldn’t need any documentation from U.S. Bank to do this.

Please ensure your address is up to date with your local licensing agency to ensure the title is sent to the correct address. Processing times vary by state, check with your local licensing agency for details.

Paper titles

We will sign off our lien on the title and send the physical paper to your address on file.

Please ensure your address is up to date with U.S. Bank to ensure the title is sent to the correct address.

Title not received: In the event we didn’t receive a paper title, a notarized lien release notice is mailed to you. Take this notice to the local licensing agency and request a lien-free title.
