How do I opt into overdraft coverage and manage it?

Overdraft coverage refers to how we manage ATM and everyday debit card transactions when a deposit account has a negative balance. When the overdraft item is paid, an Overdraft paid fee may be charged.

When you opt into overdraft coverage, or make changes, it isn't immediate. It takes one to three business days for the updates to happen.

Online banking

  1. Select Customer service at the top of the page, then choose Self service
  2. Select Overdraft Options within the "Deposit Accounts & Debit/ATM Cards" section.
  3. Select Manage overdraft coverage for ATM & debit card transactions. It is found on the left side of the page, within the "I'd like to" menu.
  4. Choose Change coverage, then review the page of disclosures. If you accept, select Agree.
  5. Select the applicable checkbox, then choose Submit.
    • To add or edit, mark the checkbox next to Yes, I want ATM and Debit Card Overdraft Coverage on this account. For changes, make the desired updates and select Save.
    • To remove, mark the checkbox next to No, I don't want ATM and Debit Card Overdraft Coverage on this account.

U.S. Bank Mobile App

  1. From the dashboard, select your checking account.
  2. Choose Account options, then select View account information.
  3. Choose ATM and Debit Card Overdraft Coverage, then select the checking account again.
  4. Choose Change coverage, then review the page of disclosures. If you accept, select Agree.
  5. Select the applicable checkbox, then choose Submit.
    • To add or edit, mark the checkbox next to Yes, I want ATM and Debit Card Overdraft Coverage on this account. For changes, make the desired updates and select Save.
    • To remove, mark the checkbox next to No, I don't want ATM and Debit Card Overdraft Coverage on this account.
