How do I buy or order foreign currency?

Foreign currency can now be ordered right at your fingertips, and we'll send an email to confirm the order.  Before you get started here's some important information:

  • For security purposes, when you place the order, you'll need to pick it up. We'll ask for a valid identification, as part of our verification process.  
  • The minimum value of the currency must be $20 USD. Foreign coins are not accepted. 
  • You need to have a U.S. Bank deposit account to order foreign currency using mobile or online banking. The option doesn't appear if you only have a credit card.

How to buy or order foreign currency in online banking

  1. Select Customer service at the top of the page, then choose Self service.
  2. In the lower right of the page, select Order foreign currency. 
  3. Once you start typing the type of currency you need, a list will populate.
    • Enter the U.S. dollar (USD) amount or the foreign currency amount; we can adjust both, so you don't get any foreign coins.
    • The exchange rate is listed for you to view.
  4. Choose Add to order, then select Continue. The order details give you an estimated total.
  5. Provide the following information, then select Continue
    1. Choose the account to purchase the currency with.
    2. Select the branch to pick up the order at.
    3. Provide the phone number we can reach you at, once the order is ready. 
  6. Review your order; when ready, select Place order.

How to buy or order foreign currency on the U.S. Bank Mobile App 

  1. Open the main menu and select Help & services.
  2. Scroll down to "Account services" and chose Order foreign currency.
  3. Start typing the type of currency you'll need, then select a type of currency from the drop-down menu.
    • Enter the U.S. dollar (USD) amount or the foreign currency amount; we can adjust both, so you don't get any foreign coins.
    • The exchange rate is listed for you to view.
  4. Choose Add to order, then select Continue. The order details give you an estimated total.
  5. Provide the following information, then select Continue
    1. Choose the account to purchase the currency with.
    2. Select the branch to pick up the order at.
    3. Provide the phone number we can reach you at, once the order is ready. 
  6. Review your order; when ready, select Place order. You're all set. Take note of the order number for your records, listed on the confirmation screen.

More Information

  • We only offer certain currencies for exchange, so we may not have the currency you need.
  • If you’re looking for a currency you’ve bought before, it may be out of stock.
  • Some currencies are restricted due to government foreign exchange controls and cannot be exchanged.
