You can use your card:

  • As your first form of identification at a U.S. Bank branch.  
  • To apply for a checking account with a secondary form of identification like a state-issued ID card, or for most accounts if you have a Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).

The Matrícula Consular Mexicana card is an official document issued and distributed by all Mexican Consular Offices in the United States. It helps prove identity and residence and can be used to access services like banking. Only Mexican immigrants can apply for the Matrícula card.

Yes, you can apply for a checking account in person at a U.S. Bank branch with the Matrícula card. You will also need a secondary form of identification and may be asked for proof of a U.S. address. 

If you also have a Social Security card or Individual Taxpayer ID (ITIN), you can apply for most U.S. Bank accounts, including savings and money market accounts. Please visit your local U.S. Bank branch to learn more.

  • Driver’s license (U.S. or foreign)
  • Social security card
