U.S. Bank small business clients can now receive and request Zelle® payments using a customized tag

For small business owners, receiving payments via Zelle® provides another convenient and secure way for their customers to pay. And now, small business owners have the ability to accept and receive payments using a customized and branded Zelle® tag.

This new capability eliminates the need for business owners to share an email or mobile phone number to accept or request Zelle® payments.

“For many small business owners, we know that having to share additional business information with customers may have prevented them from considering Zelle® to accept payments,” said Richa Awasthi, senior vice president, head of digital product for Zelle® Payments at U.S. Bank. “Now with Zelle® tags for small business owners, businesses can provide a more professional and branded payments experience, while reducing phishing risks and providing the privacy Zelle® has become known for amongst current peer-to-peer payment apps.”

Zelle® continues to be a popular choice to receive payments because it’s safe, funds can be received within minutes and it’s free for U.S. Bank clients. Since launching Zelle® tags, U.S. Bank has seen a 50% increase in payments sent to small business customers’ Zelle® tags in the first two months of 2026.

On average, U.S. Bank small business customers are receiving more than 1.1 million payments via Zelle® per month. According to recent Zelle® data, small business is the fastest growing use of Zelle® with more than 180 million payments received via Zelle® in the first half of 2025.

What is Zelle®?
Zelle® is a convenient way to send and receive money with friends, family and others you trust through your bank or credit union’s mobile app or online banking. All you need is your recipient’s email address or U.S. mobile number, or Zelle® tag for small businesses, and money will be available to use in minutes if they’re already enrolled with Zelle®. Your account information and activity stay private.

For small business owners, Zelle® lets you send, receive and request money with your trusted customers and eligible vendors. If your customer uses Zelle® through their financial institution, they can send payments directly to your U.S. Bank account.

How to set-up a Zelle® tag for your small business
A Zelle® tag is a unique identifier that you create, much like a username, that allows you to get paid with Zelle® without having to provide your contact information.

To start, think of a Zelle® tag that fits with your small business. For example, if your small business name is ABC Company, you might select abc-company as your Zelle® tag. Then, choose Zelle® Preferences, select Create a Zelle® tag and follow the steps to secure your Zelle® tag. You can now share your custom Zelle® tag and start getting paid without providing your enrolled email address or U.S. mobile number.
