KNOWLEDGE BASE

When is my branch or ATM deposit available?

Funds from a cash deposit are available immediately when made at a U.S. Bank branch or ATM.

Other deposits made at a branch or U.S. Bank ATM are given up to $225 available right away. Please note, if the total deposits exceed $225, the rest normally becomes available by the next business day. This is because we update our systems each night, Monday through Friday (except on federal holidays).

Please note, we don't accept deposits at non-U.S. Bank ATMs.

Verification

Deposits made with negotiable items need to be verified and processed through the check-clearing system. Examples of negotiable items include personal, business, and government checks, money orders, and cashier’s checks. Due to this, funds may not be available right away.

Processing

A maximum of $275 is made available immediately, based on the total amount deposited. If it exceeds $275, the rest becomes available after the system updates with that day’s business, as follows:

  • Monday through Friday (except federal holidays):
    • Branch deposits - Processed on the same business day when made before the branch’s closing time.
Example: A deposit of $300 is made on Monday before closing time. $275 of it is available right away. The other $25 is processed Monday night. This means it becomes available on Tuesday.
    • ATM deposits - Processed on the same business day when made before 8 p.m. (local time*). If a deposit is made after 8 p.m. (local time), it will be processed with the next day’s business.

Example (before 8 p.m. local time):
A deposit of $300 is made on Monday at 6 p.m. $275 is made available right away. The other $25 is processed Monday night. This means it becomes available on Tuesday.

Example (after 8 p.m. local time):
A deposit of $300 is made on Monday at 9 p.m. $275 is made available right away. The other $25 is processed on Tuesday’s business. This means it becomes available on Wednesday.
  • Saturday, Sunday and federal holidays:
Branch/ATM deposits - Processed on the next business day.

    Example (Saturday/Sunday):
A deposit of $300 is made on Saturday or Sunday. $275 of it becomes available right away. The remaining $25 is processed on Monday’s business. This means the remainder becomes available on Tuesday.

    Example (federal holiday):
A deposit of $300 is made on Memorial Day (Monday). $275 of it becomes available right away. The remaining $25 is processed on Tuesday’s business. This means the remainder becomes available on Wednesday.
