Mendoza will serve as Chief Financial Playmaker, providing insights for the bank’s new financial guidance program

U.S. Bank today announced Fernando Mendoza, a prospective member of the 2026 NFL Draft class, will serve as Chief Financial Playmaker, providing input for U.S. Bank Financial Edge™, a customized financial guidance program designed to support players at every stage of their financial journey. Financial Edge helps athletes navigate the realities of professional football, from entering the league to preparing for life after the game.

Mendoza, who earned a business administration degree from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley, will play an active role in shaping the development of Financial Edge alongside U.S. Bank business banking and wealth management teams.

The Heisman Trophy winner and quarterback for the National Championship-winning Indiana University Hoosiers was among the first generation of college athletes to navigate NIL (name, image and likeness) contracts, which allow college athletes to earn compensation from their personal brand, and the prospective draft pick is expected to sign his first NFL contract soon.

“Mendoza is uniquely positioned to bring a blend of elite athletic achievement and business acumen to our Financial Edge program,” said Scott Ford, president, U.S. Bank Wealth Management. “His insights will ensure the curriculum is tailored to meet the unique planning needs of professional athletes, helping them achieve their financial stability throughout their careers and beyond.”

Financial Edge blends real-world financial expertise with insights from NFL athletes themselves, offering sessions ranging from large groups to 1:1 sessions and providing direct access to financial experts who understand the unique pressures, opportunities and decisions players face. The program will cover topics such as understanding cash flow, planning charitable services, saving strategies, building long-term wealth, preparing for life after football and entrepreneurship.

“Football taught me the value of preparation, teamwork and trust — those same principles fuel my interest in business and finance,” Mendoza said. “Working with U.S. Bank allows me to pursue both, helping individuals and families plan for the future with confidence.”

In his final year of college, Mendoza led the Indiana Hoosiers to an undefeated season and a National Championship. He also spent multiple summers interning at investment firms. He takes a strong interest in building his business acumen.

U.S. Bank and the NFL today announced a multi-year partnership naming U.S. Bank as a new official bank and wealth management sponsor of the NFL. The collaboration builds on a strong, trusted relationship between the two organizations spanning more than 20 years and represents a shared commitment to innovation and financial stability.
