Planning to live or study in the U.S.? If you qualify, beginning in June 2023, you can open and fund a deposit account so it’s ready before you arrive in the U.S.

To qualify, you’ll need to:

  • Be 18 or older
  • Have an account in good standing with MUFG Bank
  • Live in Japan when you apply for account opening
  • Move to the U.S. within 90 days and have a U.S. visa for work, training or studying

How to apply

Take the first step and start the referral process. Send a completed referral form to MUFG Bank along with copies of documents that verify your identity.

Step-by-step process

Step 1

Download a referral form at MUFG Bank website, print and fill in the form.

Step 2

Provide MUFG Bank with the completed referral form along with the requested required identification documents.

Step 3

Once MUFG receives your completed referral form and identification documents, you will receive an email from U.S. Bank inviting you to apply for a deposit account.

Confirm you're moving to the U.S.

You’ll need a U.S. visa (excluding embassy and government applicants), or one of the following documents that shows you’ve applied for one.

  • Your DS-160 confirmation page
  • An email confirming your application for a DS-260 online immigrant visa and alien registration
  • An appointment with the U.S. embassy
