Campus Card FAQs (Basic and Maxx Cards)

  • Look at your student ID card. If you see a Visa® logo on the front and/or a U.S. Bank logo on the back, you’re holding either a Basic Campus Card or a Maxx Card in your hand. You can also review our list of Campus Partners to see if your school participates.
  • Yes, if you want to use your Basic Campus Card or Maxx Card for purchases and ATM withdrawals, you’ll need an associated U.S. Bank Checking account. U.S. Bank offers a Student Checking account with no monthly maintenance fees1, but any U.S. Bank Checking account will work.
  • You can open your account with a banker on campus during certain times of the year (e.g., orientation, back to school, etc.) at any time at a U.S. Bank branch. You can also apply online through your school's U.S. Bank custom website, linked from our
    Campus Partners list.
  • That’s easy – just speak to a banker at any U.S. Bank branch. Provide the 16-digit number that appears on your card and the banker will link it to your U.S. Bank Checking account.
  • You can use your Basic Campus Card or Maxx Card free of charge at any U.S. Bank ATM. If you have a U.S. Bank Student Checking account, you can also make up to four non-U.S. Bank ATM transactions per statement cycle without incurring a fee from U.S. Bank, although other ATM network owners may charge a usage fee.
  • You should report your card as lost or stolen as soon as possible. You’ll need to contact both your university card office and U.S. Bank. You can contact the bank in person at a U.S. Bank branch or on the phone at 800-USBANKS (872-2657).
  • To get a replacement card, visit your university card office. Some card offices may charge a replacement fee for lost or stolen cards. When you get a replacement card, visit a banker at any U.S. Bank branch to attach your new card to your U.S. Bank account.
  • Basic Campus Card and Maxx Card programs can be implemented in any state that has U.S. Bank branch locations.
  • If your school doesn’t participate in the Campus Banking program, the best place to start is with your campus administration, campus ID card office or student government. You can also contact our dedicated Campus Banking team to request more information.
  1. U.S. Bank Student Checking offers no monthly maintenance fees or minimum balance requirements. All regular account opening procedures apply. Fees for non-routine transactions and paper statements may apply. $25 minimum deposit to open an account.
