Many U.S. Bank employees are honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through volunteer service in their communities on MLK Day, which is celebrated on Monday, Jan. 18.
Amiri Brotherson, a U.S. Bank project analyst in Minneapolis who is pictured above at a past Habitat for Humanity build event, spoke about how he has approached this national day of service. “For the past few years, I’ve attended a local MLK Day breakfast as a representative of U.S. Bank or a volunteer supervisor. I’ve also been a Jack and Jill Rites of Passage Mentor. We mentor African American high school senior men as they transition to college. As part of the program, they volunteer as ushers during the breakfast. I truly believe that MLK day should be ‘a day on, not a day off.’”
Although many events are virtual this year, there are still opportunities to serve your community. We encourage you to search for opportunities on VolunteerMatch.
