The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) was enacted in 2003 to support members of the military and their families with the financial challenges of military finances during active duty.

U.S. Bank can help you understand you rights as they relate to key provisions of this law. But it’s important to understand that you’re not automatically covered for all of the protections. After you are called to active duty, you must formally request that certain SCRA provisions apply to you.

Contact the Military Service Center for all questions relating to SCRA and to request SCRA benefits.

Key Provisions of SCRA

A Cap on Interest Rates

If you obtained your U.S. Bank mortgage, loan, line of credit, or credit card prior to being called to active duty, SCRA allows a cap of 6% on the interest rate and a waiver of all fees while you are on active military service.  Contact the Military Service Center to request this benefit.

Auto Lease Termination

If you are called to active duty, or deployed, or received Permanent Change of Station orders, SCRA enables you to terminate an auto lease without penalties.  Contact the Military Service Center to request this benefit.

Help with Foreclosures

If you are a member of the military serving on active duty and are having difficulty paying your mortgage, SCRA may protect you from foreclosure.  If the financial difficulty is the result of a Permanent Change of Station orders, there may be alternatives to foreclosure.  Contact the Mortgage Default Counseling team at 800-365-7900 for assistance and be sure to explain how military service has affected your ability to pay your mortgage.
