I grew up in a family that had -- my father is a master plumber.

Plumbing was what your parents do. And who really wants to grow up doing what their parents do?

My dad had had a stroke and needed help. So while I was finishing up my bachelor's degree, I was giving him a hand. And I realized that every day could be exciting. That's when I embraced it.

My business name is Milestone Plumbing.

I didn't want the name to be something that was tied to me personally in case the business continues beyond my lifespan, and it could have a neutral name.

I think the biggest piece of advice for any small business owner; make sure you develop a relationship with a banker. To know that as you move forward with that business, that that banker is able to help you along the way.

We like challenges, it goes back to when people told me women didn't belong in plumbing. I embraced it. And I ran with it. And we knew we were going to do a really good job.
