Entering
Values
Summary
FX Web is set up for basic, quick data entry. Below are a few things to keep in mind
when entering or editing values in FX Web.
Entering
Monetary Amounts Entering
Regular Text Entering Dates
Typing an entire date in a FX Web date box is easy:
-
Use the MMDDYY syntax of six (6) digits. Don't
type slashes or dashes or the space bar (FX Web ignores them anyway).
-
Place the cursor anywhere in the date box and simply type the
six digits of your date.
- Highlighting the value and then typing
the new value is virtually the same as placing the cursor in the date box.
Editing a part of a date is a little trickier. The cursor advances one space after deleting
a single digit or highlighted digits. To replace one digit with another in the
same place:
-
First, place the cursor to the left of the
digit that you want to replace.
-
Press Delete. The cursor moves forward one space.
-
Press the left arrow key once to move the
cursor back to where you deleted the digit.
-
Type the new digit.
Entering
Monetary Amounts
-
Initial click on zero-valued field highlights
the entire value.
.
-
If you start typing from left
of the decimal, each digit adds to the whole number of units. Typing
"6, 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9" looks like this:
-
If you place the cursor to the right of the decimal, and before the first digit,
you can type two values to indicate a fraction of a unit (like cents for U.S.
dollars).
-
If you don't
actively put the cursor to the right of the decimal, your edit results
always appear as whole numbers.
-
Given that your field now has an amount of 6,135,789.00, typing 7 after placing the cursor
to the right of the decimal yields this result:
-
Type 8 to make the "cents" 78.
-
Zeroes hold one whole unit place and both decimal places, so if you press the Backspace
key once, when the cursor is at the end of the value 6,135,789.78, you get the
value 6,135,789.70. If you press Backspace again, you get
6,135,789.00.
-
To replace digits and retain the same number of
digits, highlight those digits, and then type the new ones.
-
If you place the cursor at a point in the
number, and then type another digit, the number expands.
Entering Regular Text
You must highlight
text to type over characters and replace them. Pressing the Insert
key on your keyboard does not allow you to type over text.
Text fields have length limits. Do not equate the visible length of a
text box as the allowed length of the value. Always check the value.
