Online Security

Secured Connection

Protecting your privacy, security and personal information is our top priority at U.S. Bank.

  • We use the most thorough, advanced online banking security available to safeguard your personal information.
  • Rest assured that when you bank online with Us, your accounts are safe and secure. They're protected even further against fraud and loss by our Risk-Free Guarantee. As long as you report your losses within 60 days of the first statement date when the unauthorized transactions appeared, you'll always be covered.
  • It’s also important that you do your part to ensure your safety when you’re online.
How We Protect You
At U.S. Bank, our first priority is protecting your personal information. We always adhere to strict bank security procedures to safeguard your accounts, working around the clock to detect and prevent fraud. And we use the strongest, most advanced Internet banking security technology to ensure your safety.

Here are just a few of the ways we protect you and your accounts:

  • We have dedicated security teams of experts in Internet Banking security, fraud and even on-site security whose sole job is to anticipate, address and help prevent security threats.
  • Physical safeguards like state-of-the-art security systems and 24/7 surveillance strictly control access to all of our facilities.
  • For added protection, our server will automatically log you out of U.S. Bank Internet Banking after 15 minutes of inactivity. This timed log off reduces the risk of unauthorized access to your account from an unattended computer.
  • Our computer network is protected by a powerful firewall that we monitor continuously. We regularly test and update it to ensure our systems – and your information – stay secure.
  • We use the strongest available 128-bit encryption to protect any information sent to or from our servers. The “closed lock” icon in your browser lets you know that your information is being encrypted.
  • We automatically monitor accounts for suspicious transactions to provide fraud protection sooner – and to better protect your identity and your accounts.
  • Our Risk-Free Guarantee pledges that our U.S. Bank Internet Banking and U.S. Bank Mobile Banking are so secure that we’ll cover any losses if there's ever any unauthorized use of your account.
How to Protect Yourself

Report Identity Theft or Fraud
If you think you’ve become a victim of identity theft or identity fraud, immediately call the U.S. Bank Fraud Liaison Center at 877-595-6256. We’re available 24/7 to help you:
  • close your accounts and open new ones,
  • replace check cards and credit cards, and
  • address and resolve your concern.
Next Steps
Once you’ve contacted our Fraud Liaison Center, it’s important that you do the following:

  1. Call the major credit bureaus:
First, ask that they place a “fraud alert” on your credit file. A fraud alert prevents creditors from changing your accounts – or opening new ones in your name – without proper verification. Then, request a free copy of your credit report. If you see any additional signs of fraud, notify the credit bureau and the creditors whose accounts are affected. After the disputed transactions are resolved, request another copy of your credit report to make sure your file has been updated.
  2. Call your other creditors – including your phone and utility companies – and let them know that you’ve been a victim of fraud. Close any accounts that may have been compromised. As a precaution, consider resetting all of your passwords.
  3. Inform check security companies about the fraud:

    CheckRite                                         800-466-2748

  4. File a police report if you think your personal information (driver’s license, address) has been compromised or stolen.
  5. Call the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) identity theft hotline at 877-438-4338, or file your complaint online at ftc.gov.
  6. Be vigilant, patient and persistent. It can take weeks — or even months — to resolve identity theft. Keep a close eye on all of your statements, review your credit reports regularly, and immediately report any discrepancies.
