Guide to Checking Account Advance

This guide is an educational tool designed to help you understand the Checking Account Advance service and determine if it is the right loan option for you.

How Does Checking Account Advance Work

  • Checking Account Advance is a line of credit that allows eligible customers to borrow money from their next direct deposit. The advanced funds are deposited directly into the customer's checking account.
  • If you are eligible, you may borrow money in increments of $20 up to your credit limit. Please review page 47 of the Checking Account Advance Agreement to determine your credit limit.
Tip:  Checking Account Advance is a loan product designed for short-term credit needs. If you decide to borrow, borrow only as much as you can afford to pay back with your next direct deposit.
  • Payment of your advance will be automatically taken from your very next direct deposit of $100 or more. Any payment of your advance reduces the amount available to you in your checking account for other bills and expenses.
  • Each advance, including the fees, must be paid in full within 35 days of the advance. You authorize us to automatically pay the entire amount due if your direct deposit of $100 or more does not pay your balance in full within 35 days of the advance.
  • If you are eligible, you may request a Checking Account Advance on the Internet at www.usbank.com, by calling 1-800-USBanks (1.800.872.2657), at any U.S. Bank branch, or at most U.S. Bank ATMs.

    What Are The Costs

  • You are charged a fee of $2 for every $20 that you borrow. This is an Annual Percentage Rate (APR) of 120%.
  • The fee is based on the amount you borrow, not how many times you borrow. For example, if you advance $20, five times for a total of $100, you will be charged $10 in fees. If you advance once for the amount of $100, the fee is also $10. The fee is the same.
Tip:  This is an expensive form of credit. We do not recommend repeated use of the Checking Account Advance service. Contact us to discuss the availability of less expensive alternatives.
  • A fee will be charged for each advance taken. This fee is collected from your next direct deposit or payment along with the original amount of your advance. For example, if you make a $100 advance, you will be charged a $10 advance fee at the time of the advance. This will result in an amount due of $110 ($100 advance + $10 fee = $110) for this advance, which will be added to any outstanding balance.
  • Whether your next direct deposit pays off your advance one day later or a payment is automatically made from your checking account 35 days later, the fee does not change.

Other Things You Should Consider Before Taking An Advance

  • We may be able to offer you other credit options that are less expensive and more appropriate for your credit needs. If you would like more information about other possible credit options, please visit a U.S. Bank office or call us at 1-800-USBanks (1-800-872-2657).
  • Eligibility requirements and credit limits for Checking Account Advance are reviewed daily. Restrictions to future advances can occur if you do not maintain your eligibility requirements. Please consult your Checking Account Advance Agreement on page 45 and 46 for detailed eligibility requirements.
  • Checking Account Advance does not automatically prevent overdrafts. If your direct deposit does not pay your balance in full, the bank will automatically withdraw the amount you owe, including fees, even if the payment overdraws your checking account. This may cause you to incur overdraft fees, returned check charges, or related fees. Please review the "Payments" section on page 47 of the Checking Account Advance Agreement for details.
  • If an advance remains unpaid after 35 days, we may also report you to a credit agency and close your U.S. Bank checking account. Non-payment may adversely affect your ability to open deposit accounts and/or your cost or qualification for credit in the future.
  • All advances, their due dates, fees, outstanding balances, and payments will appear on your monthly checking account statement.
